Charities of Choice 2010 and 2011
Over the last two years, the staff and clients of Pet Doctors have raised over £11,500 for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA. Thank you to everyone for your support.
We are delighted to announce that we have chosen the following charities for our Charities of Choice for 2010 and 2011:
CHESTNUT TREE HOUSE HOSPICE - www.chestnut-tree-house.org.uk
So many new issues arise when a child develops a life-limiting illness. Not just for the child but for their loved ones as well.
At Chestnut Tree House the aim is to provide the care and support these families so desperately need, whether practical, physical or emotional.
Chestnut Tree House is the only children’s hospice in Sussex and cares for children and young adults from 0-19 years of age with progressive life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses from all over the county. The hospice provides a ‘home from home’ environment with 10 children’s bedrooms plus 8 family rooms, a wet and dry play area, computer and music rooms, a multi sensory room and hydrotherapy pool. Chestnut Tree House offers support for the whole family including psychological support, care in bereavement therapy, end of life and respite care and sibling support. It costs approximately £2 million per year to run the hospice and the hospice makes no charge whatsoever to the families who use Chestnut Tree House. The government funding the hospice receives represents less than 10% of our annual running costs and is not guaranteed long term so the hospice relies almost entirely on the generosity of the public to raise the funds needed to keep the hospice running. Registered charity no: 256789
THE EARL MOUNTBATTEN HOSPICE - www.iwhospice.org
The Earl Mountbatten Hospice is the only hospice on the Isle of Wight and cares for over 800 patients facing life-threatening conditions every year. registered Charity No: 1039086
- The Earl Mountbatten Hospice is the only hospice on the Isle of Wight and cares for over 800 patients every year who face life-threatening conditions and their families.
- While the majority of patients suffer from cancer, the Hospice also cares for patients with motor-neurone disease, renal failure, congestive heart disease and chronic chest conditions.
- Patients are referred to the Hospice by their doctor, Macmillan or St.Mary's Hospital when they face an incurable condition. This may be in the last week's of their life, but it may also be several years. The hospice does this through their Day-Care Unit, 16 bed In-Patient ward, Out-Patients Unit and Family Support Team.
- The hospice's aim is to provide patients with the best quality of life possible in the time that remains to them - medically, spiritually, holistically.
- The Earl Mountbatten Hospice is an independent hospice and receives a grant from the local Primary Care Trust, which covers about a third of the running costs. For the remaining £2.2 million, the Hospice is dependent on the public's generosity.
