Mac Walks Again

Dec 23, 2011

C fakepath C111994-1 Chi MacMac the cat has made a miracle recovery just in time for Christmas.

A month ago Mac was brought into Pet Doctors Chichester after he was found at the side of the road.  He was in a very bad way and it didn't look like there was much hope for him.  He had been run over by a car and suffered a broken jaw and his back legs were completely paralysed.  Sadly no owner could be found as he had no microchip and no collar.

Mac's jaw was wired after surgery but there was nothing medically that could be done to give him back the use of his back legs.  The nerves in his back had been damaged - it wasn't anything to do with his bone structure.  It takes time for the nerves to grow back - about a millimetre a day.

Generally, for a cat in this situation, the best thing would be to put it to sleep but the staff just couldn't as they felt there could be just a tiny bit of hope.

The vet and nurse team decided to start a regime of regular physiotherapy.

Much to the amazement of everyone, Mac has now learnt to walk again thanks to the dedication of the staff in helping him get back on his paws.

He is doing really well now and his walking is improving all the time.  It takes him a little while to get going; he will stretch his legs out a bit before he starts moving but he's even started chasing mice now!

Sadly no-one has come forward to claim him and now that he is well enough to leave, the staff are now looking for a new home for him.

If you think you could give Mac a loving home, please contact us on 01243 782880.
