A Cat on the Hat!

When retired West Horsley man Mike Evans lost one of the crocodile teeth decorating the band of his precious Crocodile Dundee-style hat, he knew just what to do.  He called in to East Horsley vet practice, Pet Doctors, on Tuesday 24 November to ask if practice staff had any extracted teeth which he could use as a replacement.   Fortunately, earlier that morning, vet Janine Ryan from Pet Doctors had removed a large tooth from a feline patient so gave it to him to repair the hat.

Mike Evans, a retired banker who now volunteers at Cherry Trees, the children’s respite care home in East Clandon, Number Five night shelter in Guildford and Brooklands Motor Museum in Weybridge, purchased the hat in the Blue Mountains during his retirement holiday to Australia and New Zealand ten years ago.  It’s since become a treasured possession.

He comments:  “I was wearing the hat while collecting money for Cherry Trees in Guildford High Street last Saturday.  When I arrived home I noticed that one of the teeth was missing.   I hoped that Pet Doctors might be able to come up with a replacement though I realised that it was unlikely that they looked after many crocodiles in East Horsley.

Once they’d recovered from the shock of my unusual request they produced a freshly extracted  cat’s tooth which matched puuurrrrfectly.  It’s a nice hat and it looked so sad with a tooth missing.   I was grateful that the lovely staff at Pet Doctors were able to help me restore it to its former glory.” 

Janine Ryan added:  “When Mike came into the practice, he assured us that we weren’t being set up for You’ve Been Framed but it was certainly the oddest request we’ve ever had.  As the tooth’s owner sadly had no further use for it, we were delighted to give it to him and it’s great to see it looking so resplendent on his hat.
