Bear Hugger Saves Patient
Oct 28, 2011
Jade the Springer Spaniel was saved by Vet Kerrie McNie and nurse Claire Shorkey and trainee nurse Alice Robins, with the help of our Bear Hugger.
Jake ate some poisonous mushroom when out for a walk with her owner and became extremely unwell. She developed profuse diarrhoea and became extremely cold (hypothermic). This was life threatening.
Thankfully we have a "Bear Hugger" at our Newport hospital. This special blanket wraps itself around the patient and keeps them warm by circulating warm air. Too much heat can burn, but this equipment can regulate its temperature very accurately.
Thankfully Jade made a full recover but she wont be eating any mushrooms again.
