Convalescing at Home The amazing story of ‘Arthur’ started when he adopted some kind folk.
He had been living as a stray in their garden for some time, living off the food they were putting down for the hedgehogs – cat food !!
Arthur ,as he became known, appeared to be just a stray cat looking for food but after a while he dared to come into his "adoptive parents'" house a couple of times and he unfortunately left an offensive smell which was a mystery to them.
These good Samaritans knew there was a problem and managed to catch him and bring him into Pet Doctors, Woking.
After a lot of hissing and protesting, Arthur was sedated to be examined by one of our vets only to find a very unusual wound right around his middle.
It was in fact a COLLAR which was strangling him so hard around his middle that it had become embedded in the wound it had caused and was so deep the tissue was actually healing over the collar!
Arhtur required an operation to remove the collar and he then spent almost a month in our hospital receiving intensive care and treatment before he was actually allowed to go “home” to his adopted owners for cage rest and daily treatment of the wound.
He was so lucky to have chosen these lovely people who not only came to visit him nearly every day while he was in the hospital but were also happy to pay for his operation and veterinary treatment and to persevere with his ongoing treatment.
Luckily with all the handling, Arthur has become much more ‘people-friendly’ and in fact his purring is so loud now that it is difficult to listen to his lungs &and heart ! He was just lucky that there was no more internal damage as well.
So to all cat owners – take note. If your cat has to wear a collar, make sure it has a safety buckle. This is not the first accident that Pet Doctors, Woking have seen with these elasticated collars.
