Fourteen Stone Dog! PDF Print E-mail

Image At Pet Doctors Felpham, we recently had a client contact us to book his dog in for an appointment as he thought she was unwell.  When asked what the problem was, our client said “she’s rattling.  I think she has eaten something because there are things rattling inside her!” Sure enough, when Maddie, a young Springer Spaniel, came in we gave her a full examination and on palpation of her abdomen, it felt as though she was walking around with half the beach inside her!  We could hear the stones rattling!

Maddie was operated on the next day.  Twelve stones were removed from her stomach, one had already been pushed out of her rear end and she had vomited one earlier that morning.  She left our surgery and went home much quieter, a lot lighter and feeling much better!

Below is an x-ray showing one of the stones.  It is the white "mass" on the right-hand side, near the middle of the image, right next to the spine.
