Wiggly Winners! There were prizes galore at Summerlea County Primary School
in Rustington on Tuesday when staff from Pet Doctors Veterinary Clinics
announced the winners of their recent Big Wiggly Bookmarker Competition.
During October, Pet Doctors supported the Big Wiggly campaign.
The purpose of this campaign was to educate pet owners on the
importance of regular worming and flea treatment for their pets and on
the dangers of Toxocara which can be passed from pets to
children. The campaign was fronted, and supported by, Kim
& Aggie from “How Clean is your House”.
The staff at Pet
Doctors, Rustington invited the four classes in Year 1 and 2 at
Summerlea County Primary School to enter their competition to design a
Pet Doctors bookmarker. The only rule was that the bookmarker had
to contain something to do with Pet Doctors and worms!
“The
offer of this competition coincided perfectly with the children’s
current project on hygiene in the home, so we were delighted to take
part,” said Carla Strong, Years 1 & 2 Leader.
On Tuesday,
Lisa Brockhurst, veterinary nurse at Pet Doctors Rustington together
with 10 year old Labrador-cross Jenny – who regularly visit the school
to give talks – visited the school to announce the winners and present
the prizes.
“We had 120 designs to choose from. My
colleagues and I found it very difficult to judge the winners as all
the entries were excellent and we could see that the children had put a
lot of effort into their designs,” said Lisa.
All the prize
winners received goodie bags containing cuddly toys and games and all
the children received a gift of a Big Wiggly T-shirt and some wiggly
worm sweets!
The overall winning design from the four First
Prize Winners won a further prize and also a wormery for her
class. As part of the prize for the overall winner, Pet Doctors
will have her design printed and made into bookmarkers. Half of
these will be given to the school for the children and half will be
sold at Pet Doctors Veterinary Clinic in Rustington to raise funds for
WADARS (Worthing And District Animal Rescue Service).
At the
end of the presentations, to ensure the class teachers did not feel
left out, Lisa presented each of them with a pair of very stylish (and
fluffy!) marigold gloves!
