Mar 27, 2009

Thanks to our clients, Pet Doctors is bursting with pride as three of our receptionists as well as four veterinary surgeons and one practice were all nominated by our clients for the Petplan Awards 2009.

This year is the tenth anniversary of the Petplan Veterinary Awards (often referred to as the "Vet Oscars") which were launched so pet owners could thank their practice for the tireless and wonderful work they carry out.

The Petplan Awards is the result of a nationwide search by animal insurance company, Petplan, to find the UK's top veterinary professionals for 2009 in the following categories:

  • Vet of the Year
  • Vet Nurse of the Year
  • Vet Receptionist of the Year
  • Vet Practice of the Year

Sara Abbott nSara Abbot, receptionist at Pet Doctors East Horsley was one of three receptionists who reached the final of the Vet Receptionist of the Year and was invited to a glittering awards ceremony that took place on 2nd April at the Burlington Hotel in Birmingham where the Petplan Veterinary Awards were presented.

Sara was nominated for her dedication to every client that visits the practice.  Sara specialises in bereavement counselling and has helped many pet owners through difficult times.

"The first I knew about this was when I received a phone call during morning consults.  I couldn't believe it and went into shock for about a week!, said Sara.  "None of our clients is admitting who nominated me!  Although I didn't win in the end I enjoyed every minute of it!"

Jeanette Charman (Pet Doctors, Woking) and Vanessa Chappell (Pet Doctors, Drayton) were also nominated for the Vet Receptionist of the Year.

Pet Doctors in Seaford, East Sussex was nominated for Vet Practice of the Year and Karen Scott, veterinary surgeon at Seaford was also onominated for Vet of the Year as were veterinary surgeons Tiekie van Tonder (Pet Doctors, Chichester), Janine Ryan (Pet Doctors, East Horsley) and Peter Hanlon (Pet Doctors, Soham).

Pet Doctors senior veterinary surgeon Garret Turley MRCVS said, "this is a real testament to the commitment of the teams at Pet Doctors to the compassion and service given to clients and their pets.  We are really proud of Sara and the other nominated receptionists and vets getting this recognition."

This year over 2000 nominations were received and the quality and standard will really challenge the skills of the esteemed judging panel.
