"Vet Nurse in the Park" at large in Woking and Guildford
Jun 11, 2010
A Woking-based veterinary nurse is providing ‘al fresco’ advice to dog owners in parks in and around Woking, Guildford and Farnham during July. Lisa Trueman, who works at the Woking branch of Pet Doctors, has already held her first outdoor nurse clinic of this year. It took place at Newlands Corner in Guildford on Sunday 6 June and proved so popular that she has planned further sessions. She will be at Goldsworth Park Lake on Sunday 4 July; Bisley Common during the morning of Sunday 25 July; Horsell Common during the afternoon of Sunday 24 July and at Alice Holt Forest on Sunday 1 August.
Lisa will be based on a small stand in the popular dog walking areas of the parks she’s visiting and will give free advice to dog owners on preventive health, behaviour and nutrition. She will also carry out free health checks, including dental checks, for their pets.
Commenting on the ‘Nurse in the Park’ events, Lisa said: “I started this initiative last year and found that talking to dog owners at a time when they were out and about relaxing with their pets, meant that they had time to talk and to learn more about looking after them. They were particularly keen to find out what more they could do to protect them from perennial problems such as parasites, infectious diseases and gum disease.
As a vet nurse, it’s always upsetting to care for animals in our hospital suffering from illnesses that could have been prevented. I’m on a mission to ensure that pet owners are aware of the most common threats to their dog’s health and are fully prepared. With parasites, such as lungworm, becoming more dangerous to dogs, it’s even more important that they know the signs to look out for.”
Lisa has been working as a net nurse for five years and is about to take her final exams. Before moving into veterinary nursing she worked in wildlife rehabilitation so has been working with animals for eleven years in total. She is based in the Woking branch of Pet Doctors and can be contacted on 01483 769881.
