Why does my Cat sneeze?

C fakepath cat 7

Q. Why does my cat sneeze?

A. If there is a visible discharge coming from one or both nostrils then this will help to identify what the cause is.

If there is no discharge or just a slight discharge,  this could be caused by allergic rhinitis (which is very similar to hay fever) usually aassociated with allergies to cat litter, smoke, house dust mites.

Green or yellow discharges are often associated with infections.  Blood will occur if sneezing is particularly violent or could be due to a tumour or an inhaled object such as a sharp blade of grass.

In all cases, if you are concerned about your cat, it is best to get him examined by a vet who may have to carry out other tests such as an x-ray or swab to identify the case of the problem and prescribed appropriate treatment.
