Dogs in Cars in Hot Weather

dreamstime 3500241Q.  We are going out for the day and will be bringing our dog with us. The forecast is very warm. What advice can you give?

On a hot day, the best advice would be to leave your dog at home and get a neighbour to check on him/her during the day. If that is not possible then keep the car well ventilated and when it is parked make sure it is in the shade.   Do NOT leave your dog locked in the car (even with the window open).  Keep plenty of water available and don’t get your dog too excitable throughout the day as this will increase his/her body temperature.
