Are Many Plants Poisonous to Cats?

Q.    Are many plants poisonous to cats?

cat in garden
A.    A lot of indoor and garden plants can cause skin or gut irritation to cats, and some can be poisonous.  Cat owners should be aware that lillies are particularly poisonous to cats.

However, most cats are very careful what they eat making poisoning generally rare.

Younger, inquisitive cats are most at risk, particularly if they are kept indoors, but even free roaming older cats may accidentally swallow plant material that has become lodged in their coat whilst grooming.

After gardening, clippings should not be left around as their novelty value will encourage chewing.
