Cat Fight Injury

My cat had a fight with the local Tom a couple of days ago and came home victorious but with a cut above the top of his eye. I’ve cleaned it up and my cat keeps washing it with his paw.  Will it heal up naturally or will he need further treatment?
A. In short, I could not answer this question without seeing the cut.  Cat bites and scratches are very prone to infection and after a point the repeated cleaning of the area by the animal itself, will do more harm than good especially if it is inflamed.   The likelihood is that your cat will need a “Buster” collar to go around his neck to reduce his washing of the eye and a course of antibiotics to prevent infection.  As this cut is in the area of the eye, it would be wise to have it checked by a vet.  The vet will be able to check for any infection and also check the surface of the eye for any damage caused by the cat’s claw.
