Orange Spots on Cat Paws

Small tabby catQ.     My cat has some orange spots on the pads of her paws.  What could they be?

A.     The most common cause of orange spots on cats feet are harvest mites.

These are small parasites found at certain times of year which hook on to the skin, usually in the ungual fold- the area of skin that the claws retract into.

Curiously, the other area they appear to gather is the small folds of skin on the side of the ear. These parasites can cause a considerable degree of discomfort, and you should consult your vet.
