Broken Tooth

Q.    I think my dog has broken one of his teeth almost down to the root.  Does it require veterinary treatment?

A.    Yes, he should see his vet as soon as possible.  If the root canal is exposed, it means that his tooth will die and eventually, an abscess could form.  If he is a very young dog, an abscess could affect development of the adult tooth.  Your vet will examine the damage and it is likely that he will either extract the tooth or may consider root canal treatment in special cases.
